Wilson's Creek National Battlefield (Missouri)

The Civil War battle here on Aug. 10, 1861, was the
first major one west of the Mississippi River.
Missouri had been deeply divided between those
who wanted to join the Confederacy and those who
wanted to stay in the Union.  The battle resulted in
keeping Missouri in the Union.
