Whitman Mission National Historic Site
(Washington)

This park site commemorates a site where Marcus
and Narcissa Whitman, missionaries, established a
way station on the Oregon Trail.  The Whitmans also
tried to bring Christianity to the Cayuse Indians but
cultural differences and a measles epidemic led to
violence in which the Whitmans were killed.
