Touro Synagogue National Historic Site (Rhode
Island)

This site in Newport, Rhode Island, is not one of the
388 units of the National Park Service.  It is an
affiliate site, meaning that the National Park Service
provides technical or financial help but does not own
or administer it.  The site consists of the oldest
synagogue building in the United States.  Touro
Synagogue was built in 1762 for a congregation
which was founded in 1658 by Sephardic Jews who
fled the Spanish Inquisition.  The site does not give
out Junior Ranger badges.  I had been disappointed
that the site did not have a Junior Ranger program.
My father created a Junior Ranger crossword puzzle
and hiddenword puzzle and placed an order for the
badges to be manufactured by the company which
normally makes them.
