Oklahoma City National Memorial (Oklahoma)

This park site is an affiliate of the National Park
Service.  (An affiliate means that the site is not
owned or managed by the National Park Service but
is connected with it somehow.)  It is located where
the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building stood until Apr.
19, 1995, when it was blown up by American
terrorists.  The number of people who were killed
was 168, including 19 children.  Also, 675 people
were injured.  The memorial consists of a large
shallow band of flowing water, and empty chairs for
the victims.  The Survivor Tree is also part of the
park site and it is depicted on the Junior Ranger
badge.  It was an old tree which survived the blast.
Next door is a museum, also part of the park site.  I
was here twice and it was very moving.  The only
other place I can compare it to is Flight 93 National
Memorial, where people come to stare at the place
where the plane went down as the passengers
stopped it from heading to Washington.  Both are
quiet places with visitors being very sad.
