Johnstown Flood National Memorial
(Pennsylvania)

Around 2,200 people died in the Johnstown Flood of
1889, one of the worst disasters in U.S. history.  It
was caused by the failure of the South Fork Dam.
Some people claim that the dam was not high
enough because the elites who belonged to the
South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club refused to
make the dam higher; they used it as a scenic
pathway.
