Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona)

This park encompasses 277 miles of the Colorado
River and the highlands surrounding it.  It runs from
the southern end of Glen Canyon National
Recreation Area and reaches to the eastern end of
Lake Mead National Recreation Area.  Erosion has
created beautiful formations.  This is my favorite
nature park site of the National Park Service.  It is
extremely beautiful.  To appreciate it you really need
to spend at least three days here so you can go to
the various viewing points to look down at the
canyon.  That way you get different perspectives.
Some people hike down to the bottom and stay
overnight at Phantom Ranch.  You can also take
mule rides down and up.

At Grand Canyon
National Park, when
you finish the basic
Junior Ranger
program you get the
badge.  Getting the
badge entitles you to
buy the raven, coyote,
or scorpion patches,
based on your age.
There are three other
separate Junior
Ranger programs:
Dynamic Earth,
Discovery, and
Phantom Rattler.  I did
not do the Phantom
Rattler program (so
there is no photo of it)
because you have to
go down all the way to
the bottom of the
canyon to earn it.  It is
called Phantom Rattler
because there is a
dormitory at the
bottom called
Phantom Ranch where
people stay overnight.
