Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County
Battlefields Memorial National Military Park
(Virginia)

This park contains the locations of four major Civil
War battlefields:  Fredericksburg (Dec. 11-13,
1862), Chancellorsville (Apr. 27-May 6, 1863),
Wilderness (May 5-6, 1864), Spotsylvania Court
House (May 8-21, 1864).  It also contains four
historic buildings:  Old Salem Church (served as a
hospital during the Battle of Chancellorsville),
Chatham Manor (served as a hospital during the
Battle of Fredericksburg), Ellwood Manor (Union
headquarters during the Battle of the Wilderness),
and the house where Stonewall Jackson died.  The
house where he died is called the Stonewall Jackson
Shrine.  In it I saw the bed that he died in and the
clock that ticked away while he was dying.  He was
shot accidentally by one of his own men.  He died of
pneumonia.
