Fort Pulaski National Monument (Georgia)

This site is located outside Savannah, Georgia.  It
took 18 years and 25 million bricks to build Fort
Pulaski.  The fort was manned by Confederate
soldiers at the start of the Civil War.  In April 1862, it
fell to Union forces, who breached its masonry walls
by using long-range rifled cannons.  The ability of
rifled cannons to accomplish this changed warfare.
At this site, frequent firearms demonstrations are
performed by park rangers.
