Fort Dupont Park (District of Columbia)

This park is a sub-unit of National Capital Parks -
East, which is a unit of the National Park Service
combining various locations in Southeast
Washington, D.C., and nearby suburban Maryland.
Fort Dupont was one of many forts built at the outset
of the Civil War to encircle Washington, D.C., to
protect it from the Confederate army.  The fort no
longer exists but the land on which it was located is
a national park.  This urban park is used mainly by
local residents for picnics, nature walks, gardening,
music programs, skating, and other sports.  The
park also has special Civil War programs.  Although
it is a sub-unit of National Capital Parks - East, it
gives out its own Junior Ranger badge.
