Everglades National Park (Florida)
This site contains the largest remaining subtropical
wilderness in the United States. There are extensive
freshwater and saltwater areas, open sawgrass
prairies, and mangrove forests. Rare and colorful
birds can be seen, as well as alligators, crocodiles,
manatees, and panthers. What is unique about the
Junior Ranger program is that it is conducted jointly
with two other sites: Big Cypress National Preserve
and Biscayne National Park. They use one common
booklet. Each activity in the booklet is geared to
either of the sites or to two of them or all three. If
you complete enough activities for one of the sites,
you are awarded that site's badge. If you complete
the activities for all three sites, you are awarded a
patch listing the three on it.
