Cane River Creole National Historical Park
(Louisiana)

This site comprises two plantations in a rural area of
Louisiana.  Before the Civil War, hundreds of slaves
worked on them.  When I saw the slave cabins on
one of the plantations I felt really sad for them.  This
park is near the city of Natchitoches, which goes
back to when France owned the Louisiana Territory.
The city is small and it still has a French look.  This
park is also part of Cane River Creole National
Heritage Area, which includes other places involving
the Creole people of Louisiana.
